Another step towards import substitution

With the assistance of "Atameken" large backbone enterprises have signed an agreement to increase the share of local content
The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan "Atameken" signed tripartite agreement of understanding with the Ministry of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan and the large backbone enterprises: LLP " ERG", LLP "Kazzinc", LLP "Kazakhmys" and JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" for the development of new products by domestic enterprises. This agreement expresses the intention of the parties to promote an increase in the share of local content.

Under the agreement, a working group consisting of the staff of the Ministry and NCE will be created, which will seek for localization opportunities for products imported to Kazakhstan, so that the backbone enterprises could purchase these products from domestic producers. To this end, the companies will annually compile and give to the working group a list of imported goods that enterprises plan to purchase in the coming years.


At NCE "Atameken" agreement was signed by Deputy Chairman of the Board of NCE Eldos Ramazanov. He thanked the parties for their support in such an important initiative for the economy of the country.

"On our part, to speed up the work, we propose to use the site for NCE for meetings of the working group. At present, we have already received information from the backbone enterprises about the purchased products. These data will be sent to our producers, so that they can determine which headings can be made. These issues will be developed at the level of engineers and technicians", - said Ramazanov, speaking before signing the agreement.

Vice Minister for Investment and Development Albert Rau, who was a signatory on the behalf of the state, said it is a positive thing when backbone enterprisess have the intention to support the small and medium enterprises. "We need to try to make this mechanism to work. Preliminary work has been done. We, as a ministry, we want to continue to work with NCE so that domestic producers meet the expectations of companies that will buy their products", - he said.

It should be noted that under the agreement the parties will jointly determine the strategic directions for the creation of new equipment, spare parts and development of modern technologies of Kazakh producers.
By signing the agreement, the companies committed to enter into contracts for the purchase of products with domestic manufacturers subject to compliance with all requirements.
